Winding Down

IMG_5691.JPG

This week has been a busy one for us both. On Wednesday I had my residency graduation, despite having one more week to go. My coresidents are wrapping up this week. What a crazy, fun, stressful, and educational year it has been! I’m not going to get sappy about it yet, because it doesn’t quite feel like it’s over, but Cassia flew the coop yesterday for her big post-residency trip. One down, three to go.

Shawn had some follow up appointments yesterday and although he wasn’t given a full clean bill of health it appears everything is going in the right direction. He also finalized our lease yesterday so I can finally show you our adorable little rental house I worked so hard to secure while in Cleveland. The yard is a bit smaller than what the dogs are used to but I think they will be happy to have the whole gang back together again nonetheless.

Our updates may become a little more spread out as I dedicate more of my time to preparing to move, but we will keep them coming.

Work It Out

One year ago today we packed up and moved across the country to start a new adventure. What an adventure it has been. Full of old friends and new, hiking, biking, skiing, and climbing, and even a new addition to our family (Arya). Now we see ourselves planning to do it all over again. We’ve been working out the details of our move including rental trucks, move in dates, and all the little bits and pieces that come along with it.

Recovery is going well. Shawn had physical therapy come by and work with him today. Got some good exercises to work on alone and found someone to socialize with during the day. Looking good so far!

Breaking Out- Part II

Discharge day comes again, but this time we are all on board and feeling good about it. Shawn is feeling great! No trouble breathing, very minimal pain. So much better than when we tried this a week ago. He got up, put on his discharge shirt, and walked to the car. Yeah you heard me, wheelchairs are for bags.

Once on the outside Dave and Val took him to a local barber to fix up the Hack job of a buzz cut he got from one of his nurses in Utah. Hey, she’s a good nurse, no one said she had to be a good barber too. Looking pretty good with a fresh trim and a shave if I do say so myself.

I’ve been trucking along here in Utah. Trying my best to balance residency, packing, and licensing requirements in Ohio. I’ve gotten in a few good hikes with friends and hope to really make the most of my last three weeks here. It’s been wonderful and I am sure going to miss Salt Lake and all of the great people we’ve met in our short time here. Graduation party number 2 of 3 tonight. Wishing my date was here to join me.

The dogs are doing well in Iowa with my family. Arya loves being pampered by the girls who are equally enjoying her company. Can’t wait to be back with my babies soon. Both have birthdays coming up in July, and a reunion will make for an excellent birthday surprise!

Positive Vibes

We’ve been feeling all of the prayers and good vibes you’ve sent our way. I just spoke to Shawn and he is out of surgery and in the recovery room. Feeling good, just needing to wake up a bit more and get his pain under control. Still waiting on the official report from the surgeon, but I don’t typically share those gory details with all of you anyways 😉

When Shawn is more awake and gets his phone back he will be greeted by this adorable face. Both dogs are waiting anxiously to see their mommy and daddy again, and I think we are both ready to be back with them too!

Rescheduled

Surgery is rescheduled for tomorrow. No major issues, our original surgeon was out of town and came back to do the procedure himself. Happy to be back with someone familiar that we know and trust from the last two surgeries. More tomorrow when the procedure has been done.
