Bumps In The Road

IMG_5576.PNG

Today we got some unfortunate news.  Shawn has a pretty decent size pericardial effusion that needs to be drained (5.5 x 10 cm wowoweewa). He will be heading back to surgery tomorrow and could use your continued thoughts, prayers, and all around positive vibes. Looks we are all rooting for him from a distance as this procedure was too short notice to make the trip from Salt Lake. On the plus side, they don’t have to crack his chest open again, they only have to open a tiny window. Less high risk than the last surgery, but every procedure comes with its own risks. More to come when he is up and running again tomorrow.

Bouncing Back

Today Shawn was readmitted to the hospital. We thought he might be able to handle the fluid build up without drains and were proved wrong. He was having trouble breathing and managing his pain at home so they are going to watch him overnight and give him some extra oxygen and get a drain placed tomorrow. Hopefully that helps him stay a little more comfortable while he continues to heal. Keep your fingers crossed for a nice, easy, short stay.

He should be back at Dave and Val’s snuggling the dogs in no time.

Good Feeling

Another good day in the books. Shawn is happy to be out and spending time with Roman and Singer (the Golden’s). They aren’t our babies, but they make pretty good surrogates.

On the other side of the country I have Todd acting as Shawn’s surrogate and joining me for the Violent Femmes show and our planned visits to Big Willie’s (our local hotspot). What an amazing show! I am so glad that I get to make it to some of the Red Butte shows we booked for the summer. Sorry for Shawn that he doesn’t get to go, but it’s better for him to have some downtime right about now. As for the Violent Femmes show, fantastic! The weather and evening were perfect for music. I even got a signed vinyl to add to our collection.

Have to admit, I had a major fan girl moment today when Blaise Garza, the saxophonist for the Femmes liked my insta post today. What what what?!? It feels just as awesome as when Blythe Hill liked one of my Dressember posts. Feeling like a little bit of a celeb right about meow.

Breaking Out

He’s out! Today was discharge day and he is home with Dave, Val, and the dogs! No drains in place yet, we are just going to see how things go at home and he will go back to have them placed if needed. Not much else to report for the day except the excellent news. After 3 and 1/2 weeks in the hospital Shawn finally gets breathe some fresh air. More to come on how things are going on the outside.

Brief Update

IMG_5522.JPG

It’s been a couple of days since our last update but things have been a little crazy since I got back to work. Shawn is going well. They pulled the chest tubes today and are watching overnight to see if he needs some smaller drains placed that can be drained at home. Keep your fingers crossed he won’t be needing those. PleurX drains are supposed to be a bit more comfortable than what he had in place, so if he does need them, let’s hope that’s the case.

Shawn has been really enjoying his visits from Dave and Val. Man have they been life savers. He’s even been cleared to go up to the roof deck which they have enjoyed the last few days. He’s up and walking and I am busting his balls from a distance to work on rebuilding his strength. Shawn has made his room nice and homey thanks to the gifts from the Legner’s that we have both been enjoying.

The dogs are doing well, aside from the return of Arya’s puppy acne. Hopefully with a little peroxide we can get that all cleared up. Both dogs are having fun with the kids and will miss Carson and Madison while they visit Travis and Frinné in Boise.

Time to keep moving forward and get on with wrapping up the residency year and working out my moving plans. I’ve still got plenty of Red Butte shoes to keep me occupied until then. Looking forward to the Violent Femmes show tomorrow night.
