Holiday Weekend

Today we wind down our first day in Cleveland and Shawn is now officially a Clevelander. We had a nice relaxing day full of tests, naps, and an Office marathon on Comedy Central. We even made it up to the roof to deck to get some sunshine. Shawn is feeling stronger every day.

We’ve received so much love and support so far and are so blessed to have such great friends and family to help us get through this tough time.

We miss our babies but they are safe and on their way across the country to see us again soon.

AVR Round 2

We arrived in Cleveland last night in preparation for another valve replacement. I know a lot of people have been in the dark about what’s going on so we are reviving the blog to keep you updated. First I will let you in on what has all happened, then we can get to what is to come.

On Monday I took Shawn to the ED for a fall at home and we found an infection in his bloodstream. On further work up we found an infection in his heart valve that caused a fairly large vegetation. That vegetation had some pieces break off causing a stroke. Don’t worry, Shawn is regaining his strength and hasn’t lost any of his ability to function normally. We had a few scary days and a visit to the CVICU but he quickly made it out and we were stable to transfer to the Cleveland Clinic to be with his previous surgeon.

We received amazing care at the University of Utah and could not be more grateful for all they have done for us. They even let me micromanage in my own crazy pharmacist way without frustration;) Another large thanks is deserved by our entire flight crew with Angel MedFlights. They could not have made it a more relaxing and pleasant experience for the situation.

We arrived in Cleveland last night around midnight and are still getting settled in. Watch out for more posts to stay updated on the situation.

Blogging Revisited

Here we are again, nearing the one year mark for Shawn's surgery. Things have been going so well we kind of ran out of things to blog about. However, we do have one major life altering update. At the end of June we will be moving to Salt Lake City, Utah for an oncology PGY2 at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. We are excited and nervous for this major change. Always moving forward, looking for our next adventure!

More to come as we prepare to uproot and move across the country.

One Wild Ride

We have made it to our one year wedding anniversary, and what an amazing year it has been! We have had our ups and downs like any couple, but I think we can agree that we have faced some adversities that some couples may never face in a lifetime this year. If we can make it through all of that in one year, just think what we can face in the next 49+.

I have no doubt that it won't always be easy, but we are looking forward to all of the adventures to come!

Treat Yo Self Week 2016

Let's face it, the recovery updates are going to get pretty boring. So we thought we would liven things up with a good old fashioned treat yo self week. We started off slow with several Red Box rentals, a lunch date at Zins, and a tiny vase from Homegoods for the flowers from our garden. Beautiful right?

We picked up the pace midweek with a trip to Von Mauer and Scratch Cupcakes. Worth it? You be the judge.  Also, we threw in a pedicure because what is a treat yo self week without some form of spa treatment?

To wrap up the week we decided it was time to retire the Buick. It was a lovely car, but far to heavy a gas hog for a commuter car. After several months of flip flopping between whether to sell or not, and what car we wanted we decided to downsize and "NEVER PAY FOR GAS AGAIN!" If you are looking for a new car and an EXTREMELY enjoyable experience, go see Tim at Billion Automotive in Iowa City. He is a riot and he truly worked to get us a deal that worked within our budget. He even snuck in a few good "right meows." Bye bye Buick, hello Chevy Volt. Time to get used to the gas free life and save some green, both economically and ecologically. 😉

More boring walking and napping on the agenda for the weekend. You may not hear from us until we have some more interesting updates. I spend most of the day studying while Shawn watches movies and naps.

We do want to send a special shoutout to the Medtouch family for being so supportive! We really enjoyed our visit to the office on Wednesday and the Get-Well-Aphant! Shawn is looking forward to regaining his strength so he can get back to work and have somethings to keep himself busy.
